Here’s to blind loyalty

To heaps of praise

Yet no critiques

(how dare you criticize the home of the brave?)

Here’s to declarations of love

No,

Draping the flag across your body

is not love

Here’s to the “greatest country in the world”

To those who call it that

When they have never left the safety of its borders

Here’s to those who live in the past

Here’s to those who live in a utopia

Here’s to the gatekeepers

The prideful

The ones with their backs turned

And eyes closed

Here’s to explosions

of colors and symbols

Because if it’s not doused in red

white, and blue

Then what is it even doing here?
