Roy Moore

November 29th, 2017

When I was 14 I was in the 8th grade. I was planning my grade’s trip to Israel, I was still reminiscing about my Bat Mitzvah and I would spend hours listening to One Direction. I hadn’t quite figured out what to do with my hair and I was convinced that John Green was the pinnacle of literature. When I was 14, I was still deciding which high school to attend and I spent hours on the phone with my friends making plans to go to the movies.

When I was 14 I couldn’t consent to sex, both legally and emotionally speaking. But when Leigh Corfman was 14, Roy Moore, a current senate nominee, sexually abused her.

This, of course, is just one of the many sexual abuse allegations that have been made against many famous men. Moore has yet to step down or be forced to step down from his nomination, and those who defend him claim that 14 year olds can consent to sex. But, quite frankly, we should all be weary of grown men who want to engage in sexual conduct with someone who can’t even vote. The trend of older men preying on younger girls needs to stop, and perhaps it should stop with Moore.
